چکیده

Biochar has proven its potential in removing heavy metal ions from water. The objective of this study was to evaluate locally obtained biomass feedstocks for biochar production and their efficiency as a sorbent aqueous lead (Pb2+) removal. consisted avocado seed, peel, grapefruit brown seaweed, which represent agricultural marine biomasses. materials were produced two different methods: (1) laboratory tube furnace at 300 °C (2) Do-It-Yourself (DIY) maker, “BioCharlie Log”. biochars characterized selected physicochemical properties, batch adsorption tests with 10 mg Pb2+ L−1 conducted. All exhibited >90% removal the seed peel being most effective (99%) tube-furnace-produced biochars. BioCharlie-produced-biochars showed similar (90–97%) seaweed (97%). Land-based higher carbon content (>53%) than (28%), highest ash (68%). Our results suggested that oxygen-containing surface functional groups land-based mineral (ash) fraction marine-based play key role

Removal of Lead (II) from Aqueous Solution Using Cocopeat: An Investigation on the Isotherm and Kinetic

The aim of the present work was to investigate the ability of Cocopeat to remove of lead (II) from aqueous solutions. The effects of different parameters such as particle size, adsorbent dosage, pH, contact time, agitation speed and concentration on the removal process has been investigated. The maximum removal of lead ion (92.5%) took place in the pH range of 4 contact time in 30 minutes a...

Removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution using canola biomass: Isotherms and kinetics studies

The removing of hexavalent chromium from wastewater or decreasing its chromium (VI) content up to the permitted levels is important due to its non-biodegradation, bioaccumulation, and cancer-causing and toxic effects. In the present study, biosorption of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using canola was investigated. The various physicochemical parameters such as pH, initial Cr (VI) ion concentra...

Adsorption of Lead ions from aqueous solution by the dead biomass of nanoalgae Scenedesmus sp.

In attempts to remove toxic metal lead, distinct types of algae biomass have been scrutinized as alternatives to conventional physicochemical technologies. In this research, the absorption of  Lead by nanoalgae Scenedesmus sp. was studied at concentration of10 to 100 mg/L, pH 3 to 8, temperature 15 to 40 °C and exposure time of 10 to 60 minutes)in a batch culture system. The concentration of Le...

Removal of Lead Ions from Aqueous Solution by Sorptive-Flotation Using Limestone and Oleic Acid

A simple, rapid and economic procedure was presented to remove lead(II) from aqueous solution under the optimized conditions. It is based on the sorption of Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions onto limestone fines (LS), which is an inexpensive and widespread over the globe, followed by flotation with oleic acid (HOL) surfactant. The different parameters (namely: solution pH, sorbent...

Removal of Cadmium and Lead Ions from Aqueous Solution by Nanocrystalline Magnetite Through Mechanochemical Activation

In this study, the removal of cadmium and lead ions from aqueous solution by nanocrystalline magnetite was investigated. The nanocrystalline magnetite was synthesized by mechanochemical activation of hematite in a high energy planetary mill in argon atmosphere for 45 hours. The ability of the synthesized nanocrystalline magnetite for removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions was studi...
